When you ask about his past, Bub pulls a pipe from beneath his leather tunic and lights it before answering. Born in Daggerford, a village situated on the Trade Way between Baldur’s Gate and Waterdeep, he was the seventh son of a farmer. The favorite of the family, he followed in his father’s footsteps, living a simple life and learning to hunt with his brothers. His keen eye soon became apparent, as his archery skills grew to match those of castle guards. As the years passed, Bub would occasionally join his brothers in the town militia, defending the local farmsteads from marauding lizard folk. In other respects, life on the farm was unchanged.
However, shortly after one Higharvestide, as he made his customary visit to Daggerford to sell the family’s produce, the castle issued a call to arms. A band of ogres had sneaked through the Misty Forest from the High Moor and were pillaging the farmsteads, killing all they encountered. Abandoning the wagon, Bub leaped onto the horse and galloped the three leagues to his home. Upon arriving, a shiver of fear rushed over his body as he focused on several massive ogres battling his brothers. Bub remembers little of what happened next. Clasping the symbol of Tempus—a gift from his father—he joined his brothers in a fury, wielding an old sword with the speed and strength of ten men, cutting down all of the ogres in the span of minutes as his family watched in awe.
Bub claims to have lost interest in following in his father’s footsteps after that day. He traveled to Baldur’s Gate and offered his services as a hired blade. In the years since he has aided farmers in the Beregost area, protecting their homes from ogres and other unwanted guests. While he may be simple in manner, you sense that Bub is a wily veteran of the battlefield.
